Cheverly History?

According to the Gazette, a group of Cheverly residents, led by Ward 1 Councilman Michael Callahan, have formed a group to research and document our town's history.

ChvBlog was a proponent of this idea several months back, thinking that a book on Cheverly would be a great way to preserve the oral histories of the town. Given the high number of both Archives and Smithsonian employees in town, there should be some good experience available to us.

(That would mean that those groups would have to get along)

The next meeting of the group is on January 22 at the Town Hall.

Holiday Market

Any chance you don't know about the BIG HOLIDAY MARKET yet?

Now you do. As you can imagine it is going to be a hum dinger of a market. Head on over the the market blog to learn more...

Oh, nevermind

Please ignore the post formerly known as Charles & Kelly at Savory as the gig has been canceled. This is due to a scheduling error by the cafe. Anyway, I'm sure we'll be rushing to set up another gig there soon so stay tuned! He said without any sarcasm!

In any event, we'll see you Saturday at the big HOLIDAY MARKET from 10:00 to 4:00 at the Community Center.

Johnson: Furlough County Employees, I'll Travel Overseas

In yet another case of what appears to be bad decision making by our County Executive Jack Johnson, he's off on an overseas gambit to Africa, despite requiring all County employees to take two weeks of unpaid leave in the next year.

In the face of criticism from the WaPo and the Gazette, County officials have simply stonewalled, stating that Johnson will answer questions about the trip upon his return, but would not provide any information about his trip until then, even declining to name an itinerary.

While the possibility exists that this is a viable trade mission, it seems that an open and transparent administration would have no issues with disclosing the purpose of the trip.

Please remember next time you pay your County taxes what they're being used for.

Order Verizon: Save Dogs

Despite the opinion one might get by reading the ChvBlog, we are not a dog-rescue organization. However, we do try and help all the lost doggys find their homes. That being said, frequent dog rescuer Daphne L. works for an organization called Homeward Trails.

They currently have a fund raising drive going on that involves Verizon FIOS. Order FIOS stuff, and they give HT some cash.

Verizon FiOS® Internet $25.00 donation
Verizon High Speed Internet (3.0 Mbps) $25.00 donation
DIRECTV® $20.00 donation
Verizon FiOS® TV $20.00 donation
Verizon Freedomsm Calling $10.00 donation
Verizon Long Distance $10.00 donation
Additional Line $10.00 donation

So, if you're going to stick it to the Comcast guys, and order some FIOS, then make sure you call 1-888-695-5299 and mention the code #12550.

And please.

Keep your dogs on a leash so they don't run away and get lost.

Incoming!

Remember on M*A*S*H the way everything was lighthearted and fun until someone, usually Radar, heard the choppers coming? Cheverly's a little like that sometimes, except most of us are not surgeons and Dan and I don't have a still in our quarters (yet)(just wait for the economy to get a little worse and we'll see). It's hard to get too riled about a little house-shaking intrusion from time to time since we never know when it's going to be us on that chopper, important body parts all sticking out the wrong way and the like.

Nevertheless, if you're curious about what's going on with the hospital and its lovable helicopters you should come on down to the Town Meeting this Thursday at the Community Center. A representative of the State Police will be there to discuss helicopter policy (there is one) and answer all your questions.

Dan's Editorial Addition: While I understand the desire for peace and quiet in the neighborhood, the fact is, we live next to a hospital that has been there longer than most of us have lived here. The MD SP helicopters save many lives annually, and I doubt that any of you would have a problem with noise levels were it you or a loved one that they were carrying. I am sure there are ways to reduce the noise level, but keep in mind, this is not a concrete plant, it's saving people's lives.

Children's Christmas Thingy

...And then tomorrow morning it's off to the jolly old Community Center at 11:00 am for the town's annual Children's Holiday event. Good times and holiday cheer will abound.

Christmas Tree Lighting -- Tonight!

I was so busy slacking around on Facebook that I almost forgot to post about tonight's Christmas Tree Lighting in the center of town. It's at 7:00pm. And if previous years are any indication they mean 7:00pm on the dot. As always it's a great opportunity to stand around in the cold with your neighbors. Who knows, you may even get to see a lost dog or two while you're out since our town is over-run with them.

And just like our dear colleagues over at CHVChick, we can haz stock photos of Christmas trees too!

You remember that lost dog?

This lost dog is the one I'm referring to.

Apparently, he's got a free spirit, because the family who took the dog in has lost him. Or the dog lost them, it doesn't really matter.

The owner is offering a REWARD so if you find the dog, please contact us here at ChvBlog and we'll put you in contact with the owner.

Watch out for the UPS Grinch!

Of course, the UPS doesn't actually have "grinches" on their payroll, but there might be some in the neighborhood. A Cheverly resident recently had a UPS package rummaged through after it had been delivered, leaving the opened box sitting in the road.

A kind neighbor then delivered the package, still stuffed with Lego's.

So beware, and if you're expecting parcels delivered, you might want to have them "signature required" to prevent any more packages from going missing.
